School project - to redesign anything we don’t like ourselves.
For this assignment, I selected Limpo Lemonade as the subject for my design critique. Despite being on the market for over two decades, Limpo has undergone minimal changes to its design during this time.
Although Limpo Lemonade is primarily targeted towards children, in my opinion, their current mascot would be better suited for a beer company.
The mascot is depicted with pants that are barely staying up, a bare belly, and a peculiar vest. In my view, this illustration does not align well with the image of Latvia’s most popular children’s lemonade.
The overall design of Limpo’s lemonade bottles could also be improved. The unconventional font, outlined in black, is reminiscent of the title font used for a popular Latvian soap opera called “UgunsgrÄ“ks.” Furthermore, the lemonade’s name is in italics, which decreases its readability.
I created a new mascot that is more appealing to children, using simplified shapes and colors. In addition, I improved the hierarchy of the text on the can design and placed greater emphasis on the drink flavors.
